Cortez McDowell is one of the most talented prospects in the country. His recruitment has really picked up since January. He now boasts an offer list that includes Florida State, Alabama, Georgia, Miami, and Ohio State among others.
But Syracuse was the first school to offer which has given the Orange a chance. They continued to recruit McDowell hard, and recently paid him a visit at Locust Grove High (GA).
"They came and my coach gave them my transcript," McDowell said. "They got my transcript and I got called into the front office. We just talked about Syracuse. Just talked a little bit about Syracuse.
"We really just talked about what they're trying to get back to this year. Just talked about getting back to working. We didn't really talk about where I am on their board right now. We just talked about football really."
While the visit wasn't overly eventful, it did show the type of interest the Orange have in the 4-star safety. Being his first offer means a lot to McDowell. That honor has guaranteed Syracuse a spot in his top ten when he cuts his list.
"Syracuse, no matter what, is still going to be up there," McDowell explained. "When I make my top ten, they're definitely going to be there. They'll be in my top ten just because they offered me first.
McDowell added that he is planning on trimming his list over the summer. A visit to Syracuse is planned for late June and early July.
