Boyd Has Strong Interest in Syracuse

A critical position in 2014, Syracuse continues to recruit running backs all over the country. They recently offered Josh Boyd who discusses his interest in the Orange, the latest in his recruitment, and more inside.

Georgia prospects continue to add Syracuse to their list. One of the recent offerees was South Gwinnett (GA) running back Josh Boyd.

"It started out as just a regular day," Boyd recalled. "My coach called me into his office and said he had good news. He said Syracuse wanted to offer me. Then he gave me Coach (Clark) Lea's number. I called him about five minutes later.

"We talked for a little bit. He said he loved my film and couldn't wait to get to Syracuse to show the rest of the coaches my film. Basically after doing that, the offensive coaching staff gave the offer to me."

The Orange were not the 5-foot-10 running back's first offer. His list continues to grow, but the Syracuse offer stood out because of its conference affiliation.

"Syracuse was my fourteenth offer," Boyd claimed. "Right now it's UNLV, Toledo, Northern Illinois, Illinois State, South Alabama, Jacksonville State, UAB, Fordham, Furman, Air Force, Ohio, Buffalo and Syracuse.

"I talked to Syracuse before when they came down to the school. They said they were interested but I didn't expect that something would come around this quick. When I found out they wanted to offer me, I was really excited. It's my first big ACC offer."

Syracuse being in the ACC would allow Boyd to play road games close to home should he choose the Orange. The coaching staff believes if they get him on campus, Syracuse could end up being the choice despite the distance from home.

"It's big," Boyd admitted. "I don't have much family up north but Syracuse is a nice place. There's a lot of tradition behind it and they play really good football. They talked about me coming up for a visit. He wanted to make sure before I make any decisions that I do take an unofficial up there, and if I can't make an unofficial that I take an official.

"He really wants me to get a feel for Syracuse because he thinks once I get up there I'll fall in love and I'll pick Syracuse. I'll definitely work to try to get up to New York."

With a list of fourteen schools, Boyd certainly has his options. He thinks more offers could come as well, but says he is just looking for the best fit.

"When it first happened, I was big on Toledo," Boyd explained. "Toledo was my first offer. I liked Toledo at first. But then once some more offers came and then I started thinking a little bigger. I started getting bigger and bigger offers.

"I'm really just open to the right fit for me as far as playing time and my feel for the school. I want a school that really wants me. A school that likes me and it feels like Syracuse really does. Syracuse will definitely be top five, no doubt."
