Depth Chart Breakdown: Quarterback

With a wide open race for the quarterback position to begin this season after the departure of Ryan Nassib, one has left a good impression moving forward. More inside.

The decision to place Terrel Hunt at the top of the quarterback position for the Syracuse Orange is of no surprise.

Hunt appeared most comfortable with his receivers during the Spring. Be it a short pass or a deep route, Hunt's timing was more precise than either Charley Loeb or John Kinder.

Syracuse's top option is also the most mobile of the trio. Loeb appears to be strictly a pocket passer while Kinder, who had been elusive in earlier practices, now seems to have trouble making decisions when pressured.

Hunt's biggest competition seems yet to come when Drew Allen joins the quarterback contest in the Fall. What Allen can do with the Orange receivers is yet to be seen but his original recruitment by the Oklahoma Sooners' program holds the notion that his talent is of the upper tier for college quarterbacks.

Loeb being placed second on the depth chart over Kinder is of some surprise with his performance dropping down as Spring practices went on. However, he holds onfield experience over Kinder and Kinder did little to help himself move up in the Spring with passes that left the ball out of play numerous times.

Neither Loeb or Kinder have done enough to outright take hold of a sure backup role behind Hunt leaving the second spot more fluid at this point.
