Three star Wyndmoor (PA) La Salle College High linebacker Zaire Franklin became the third member of Syracuse's 2014 class when he verbally committed on Sunday. He says the decision almost came the day before.
"Actually I almost committed while out there on the visit but I just wanted to sleep on in it," Franklin admitted. "But mainly because I want to major in Sports Management and Communications and it doesn't get any better than Syracuse.
"I committed to Coach (Clark) Lea the linebackers coach and he was pretty fired up after I gave him the news."
Relationships were a big factor in Franklin's commitment. Both with current commits and the coaching staff.
"A.J. Long was my recruiter," Franklin chuckled. "He basically showed me how important I was to their program and was pretty big in my commitment. My relationship with Coaches Lea, Dauost, Shafer, et cetera were huge. They are one the only staffs that preach a family atmosphere and actually lives it."
With his commitment out of the way, Franklin is now focused on his collegiate career.
"I'm done with my recruitment," Franklin claimed. "I'm all in on Cuse. I want to win an ACC championship and I know Coach Shafer, AJ and Cuse Nation feels the same. I'll work as hard as possible in the weight room and classroom to accomplish it.
"Cuse fans can expect me to snag a few commitments from my fellow Pennsylvania guys. 2014 is gonna be legendary!"
