Miami (FL) North Miami Beach wide receiver Steve Ishmael's recruitment has been largely behind the scenes. He has not spoken to the media much or given updates on a regular basis. However, as summer gets underway, Ishmael has three schools standing out.
"I haven't taken any visits yet," Ishmael said. "I haven't gone to any schools yet. But I do plan on going to UM (Miami). My two schools right now that I'm really liking are Illinois and Syracuse. And Pittsburgh.
"Those three schools are coming at me the hardest. I don't know if I'm going to get to those schools, but I would like to take visits there."
"My recruiter at Syracuse is Coach McDonald," Ishmael explained. "They just tell me that they really want me up there. They need me as a receiver. I've talked to the head coach, Coach Shafer, as well. He just tells me he really likes me and he wants me to go there.
"My relationship with them is really good. I would love to get a chance to play in that orange and blue. It's a great school. I'm looking forward to that but I'm still looking."
Pittsburgh is also coming after the talented wide receiver hard.
"Coach Ingram is recruiting me at Pitt," Ishmael outlined. "He's the receivers coach. They often call me. They text my coach a lot. They text him a lot. They say that they're a pro-style offense and they run the ball mainly, but it'd be good for them to run it to open up the pass.
"He has no problem throwing the ball and he really likes me."
Ishmael has a strong relationship with new Illinois offensive coordinator Bill Cubit that goes back a few years.
"At Illinois, my recruiter is Coach Cubit," the three star receiver said. "He's an offensive coordinator. He's been the head coach at Western Michigan. I really like Illinois, because when Coach Cubit was at Western Michigan, when I was a sophomore, he offered me before the season even started.
"So that's why I really like Illinois."
Just because three schools are standing out for Ishmael doesn't mean a decision is imminent. His recruiting process will take some time to come to its finality. However, he does know what he's looking for in a school.
"I'm not making my decision until after the season," Ishmael admitted. "I'm not going to commit to a school because I don't want to commit and decommit and commit again. I just want it to be a one decision thing.
"I'm just looking at the coach and the campus. I'm going to be looking into that. And the quarterback, to see if he can get me the ball. I'm just going to pray about it and God will help me get to the right school."
