Onto Summer League: James Southerland

With 30 teams potentially watching, Southerland will need to leave a good impression on at least one team this summer. More inside.

After not hearing his name called in the NBA Draft, Syracuse Orange alum James Southerland will attempt to make a roster this summer.

He will have an opportunity to audition not only for the Philadelphia 76ers, of whom he is playing for, but also to the entire NBA as an undrafted free agent.

The Orange alum will be at the Orlando Summer League from July 7th to the 12th.

His best season with Syracuse came in their most recent campaign, where Southerland stepped up to show just how talented he is from long range.

Southerland also improved defensively, grabbing rebounds, blocking shots, and stealing the ball go get out in transition.

He made it seem effortless at times to attack the basket but he needs to head to the rim more.

Inconsistency from long range and a seeming refusal to head to the basket have placed him in an open audition.

Getting started early in Summer League is essential and remaining strong throughout is even more essential.

Being able to play with Syracuse teammate Michael Carter-Williams can aid Southerland in feeling comfortable on the court which can ease his nerves in this ever-vital time as a basketball player.
