Syracuse Blows Out Wagner

Syracuse exploded after a slow start to defeat FCS Wagner 54-0 in their home opener on Saturday. It was the first win for the Orange in 2013 and the first for head coach Scott Shafer in his career.

Syracuse, N.Y. -- Terrel Hunt came in and jump started a stagnant Syracuse offense that ran away from the Wagner Seahawks to get their first win of the season.

After Drew Allen failed to get a first down on his first three possessions, Hunt led five consecutive touchdown drives to put the Orange up 37-0 at the half. Jerome Smith scored two rushing touchdowns, matched up Hunt's two scoring tosses to Prince-Tyson Gulley and Chris Clark.

The second half continued more of the same as the Orange were too strong up front on both sides of the ball for the Seahawks. The defense had a dominant performance in shutting out Wagner. They forced two turnovers, one fumble and one interception, in addition to not allowing a first down until the last minute of the first half.

Syracuse got into the win column for the first time in 2013 and first time in the Scott Shafer era with a 54-0 victory. The win improves the Orange to 1-2 on the season.
