Syracuse to face early fall ball test

The Syracuse men's lacrosse team is set to face the Iroquois Nationals and Israeli National teams this Sunday at SUNY Cortland. Coach John Desko speaks about playing the competition inside.

With two weeks of fall ball almost in the books, the Syracuse men's lacrosse team will partake in its first exhibition games this Sunday against the Iroquois Nationals and Israeli National teams at SUNY Cortland.

"Well, we don't know too much about them," Desko said about this weekend's opponents. "I wasn't even sure that there was an Israeli National team. Obviously, the Iroquois Nationals are extremely talented. They have some great offensive players, some of the best in country - if not the best. It will be great for our defense going up against those guys and our offense going against their defense."

Syracuse was added late last week in place of Cornell. The Big Red's scrimmages were canceled following allegations of hazing.

Desko notes that kind of situation can happen anywhere.

"We try to educate the guys on situations like that," he said. "Sometimes as a coach you talk to them over and over again on what to do, what not to do...I'm not sure they hear you all the time if it becomes redundant. We bring people in to talk to the group and to talk to them about certain situations to stay away from."
