When Assistant Athletic Director of Communications, Mike Morrison, rattled off names for this weekend's Orange Alumni Lacrosse Classic at the Carrier Dome, Syracuse head coach John Desko's eyes lit up.
"Enough said there" Desko said. "That's a great list."
Names like Jeremy Thompson, Kenny Nims, Cody Jamieson, Matt Hardy, Joel White, Jojo Marasco and Brian Megill are just a few that make up the 25-man roster.
"I think it's a great weekend all-around for our guys," Desko said. "The list sounds like a who's who in lacrosse, professionally and collegiately. I think it's about relationships, going out and having some fun and seeing how our players will perform against great players. In general, it's a whole weekend of getting to know alumni and current players and watching each other play."
The game itself will feature an all-star alumni cast that combines for 32 total All-America nods.
"It's just going to be good getting everyone some reps," senior goalkeeper Dominic Lamolinara adds. "The freshmen couldn't play in our Israel and Iroquois scrimmages, so we are going to see where they are compared to our sophomores and juniors that we have coming back."
Junior attackman, Kevin Rice is along the same wave length as Lamolinara, too, stating, "It's still in the early stages of the season. This will be the fourth week of practice. We just want to see how the offense and defense are coming and how the new guys will do."
As for Desko, it's all about finding a healthy balance of competition and having fun in the process.
"The guys we go against in our game take it pretty seriously," Desko said. "They want to come out and show that they can beat us. They are first team all-americans and professional players. They want to play well, they want to perform and beat the younger guys."
Entering its fourth year, the Orange Alumni Lacrosse Classic will once again feature two games- a "Legend's Game" at 1:30 p.m. followed by the alumni game that pits this year's 2013-14 squad against the Alumni All-Stars.
Tickets for the doubleheader are $10 and can be purchased online or in person at the Carrier Dome Box Office (Gate B). Parking is free.
