Defensive line is a big position of need for Syracuse in their 2014 class. While top target Thomas Holley is still on the radar, but looking less and less likely to choose the Orange, Syracuse still wants other prospects in the mix. They recently offered Rock Hill (S.C.) South Pointe defensive tackle Zeek Rodney.
"Yes Syracuse offered," Rodney said. "It was Tuesday. I talked to the head coach (Scott Shafer). He told me that they watched my film, like, twice and they loved it. They thought I could help this program because I play with speed and have a high motor. He told me that I had an offer.
"I was excited because I actually enjoy ACC football. Syracuse is in the ACC now and this is my second offer from the ACC."
Shortly after speaking with coach Shafer about the offer, he was contacted on Facebook by director of recruiting Eric White. That conversation was about getting Rodney up to campus to check out the program in person.
"I got a message from another coach on Facebook," Rodney said. "They set my official visit date for January 17th. There's a basketball game that weekend against Pittsburgh. I'm definitely taking that official."
Rodney still considers it early in the process for him. He does not have any favorites, but says the Orange are definitely in the mix.
"I don't really have a ranking," Rodney said. "I don't have any top schools, but I have high interest in Syracuse. I want to see certain things on the visit.
"My factors for where I want to go to college are where I would get to play and where I would feel at home. Where I feel like I won't be mistreated and I'll fit right in."
"I don't have an official date with Boston College yet," Rodney said. "I'm supposed to take an official to Marshall on November 2nd. Then I might take a visit to Charlotte as well.
Rodney added that he isn't likely to make a decision before taking his official to Syracuse, and may not decide until signing day.
