Norton Set to Return Against Maryland

Ryan Norton was suspended for last week's game against Wake Forest. While Syracuse did not need him for that game, his presence will be important for the Orange going forward.

Ryan Norton was suspended for violation of team rules when Syracuse faced Wake Forest last weekend. The suspension left Syracuse without a true kicker against the Demon Deacons, but the same will not be true this Saturday as Norton is set to return to the Orange lineup.

Riley Dixon and Jonathan Fisher filled in admirably, but it was clear there was loss of confidence in the kicking game.

Fisher made one of his two extra point attempts, having his second one blocked. He clearly struggled as both attempts were very low.

Dixon handled kick-off duties for Syracuse. He was solid but did not have as much distance on his kicks as Norton has this season. He lined up as the field goal kicker late in the second half, but the Orange faked the attempt.

Head coach Scott Shafer confirmed in his ACC teleconference on Wednesday that Norton will return this week against Maryland. The news gives Syracuse some stability at the position for a game that could come down to special teams execution.

Syracuse and Maryland kickoff in College Park (Md.) at 3:30pm on Saturday.
