2015 running back checks out Syracuse

Mike McDaniel is still very early in the recruiting process. He took a visit on Saturday to Central New York to check out the Orange. He discusses his interest in Syracuse, and the trip, inside.

Bethlehem (Pa.) Catholic running back Mike McDaniel may be part of the 2015 class, but he is friends with two 2014 Syracuse commits (A.J. Long and K.J. Williams) that took him up north to check out the Orange on Saturday.

"I just tagged along with A.J. and K.J.," McDaniel said. "I hung out with K.J. A.J.'s dad basically asked me to go. I just went along with it. It was a pretty good game. Tough ending."

McDaniel admitted he was cheering for the Orange on Saturday, and disappointed in the outcome. Still, it was a productive trip as he got to tour the facilities and speak with some of the Syracuse coaching staff.

"I met the recruiting coordinator (Eric White) and I met a few of the coaches," McDaniel said. "I had a little conversation with the running backs coach (DeAndre Smith) and a few others. We were just talking about how everything was. I got a tour of the (Manley) Fieldhouse that's over by where the practices are. And I saw the locker room.

"They were really nice. I liked the locker room and the practice facilities and stuff like that. The Dome is pretty cool too."

The trip to Central New York was McDaniel's first. He had not been on the Orange radar prior, but is hopeful they will keep in touch. The strong runner has also heard from two other northeast programs.

"I don't have any offers," McDaniel said. "But I've heard from Boston College and Temple."

Despite the lack of offers, McDaniel knows what he's looking for in a potential landing spot.

"I want to go where it's not too far," McDaniel said. "But it's not right next to home. Whatever major I want to take, I still have to figure out what I want to do, but what they offer. But basically a pretty good educational school too."

McDaniel admitted that he would be very interested in the Orange if they were to pursue him. Both Long and Williams have a lot of positive things to say about their future school.

"A.J. can go on and on about Syracuse," McDaniel said. "He talks about it all the time. Anything and everything Syracuse he talks about. K.J. talks about the school and just the overall campus and all that stuff."
