Orange scorch the nets from foul line in Maui

A historically poor free throw shooting team, Syracuse stepped up their game to seemingly impossible levels from the charity stripe in Maui.

If you watched Syracuse over the last three days in Maui, you would never know that they came in shooting only 62% from the free throw line. You would never know that the Orange had struggled mightily from the charity stripe this season.

In a story that continued to develop over their time on the island, Syracuse players calmly stepped to the free throw line and hit shot after shot after shot.

In total, Syracuse was 55-62 from the line, good for 88.7%. The Orange hit them when they counted, too. Down the stretch of each game when the opponent was trying to make a comeback, Syracuse put the team away with clutch free throws.

Syracuse now has a lot of options down the stretch of games. C.J. Fair can hit clutch free throws. Tyler Ennis has proven he can handle the pressure. Trevor Cooney hit a pair Wednesday night.

Realistically, the team is not going to keep up this electric clip. However, if they can become a more consistent team from the free throw line, it gives an extremely talented team one more weapon.
