Four star Huntersville (N.C.) South Lake Christian running back Robert Washington has had Syracuse high on his list for some time. Last week, linebackers coach Clark Lea visited Washington at his school.
"Coach Lea came by last Friday," Washington said. "But I didn't get to see him. He talked to our A.D. and coach. I didn't get to talk to him though. I just walked by and said hello."
Despite not having a long conversation, Washington took notice of the fact that coach Lea took the time to stop by.
"It showed that it's not just interest on my end but there's interest back," Washington said. "For me, how hard a school recruits me, that's what school I'm looking into.
"I'm actually dropping my top 15 on January the 14th. Syracuse is very high on my list right now. It means that they show interest back and that's really big. If I was showing interest in a school and they weren't showing it back, there would be no point. I love Syracuse and they show that right back."
Washington is one of the most talented prospects in the 2016 class and has already drawn the attention of several elite programs. That hasn't scared off the Orange, however.
"Syracuse is in touch with me a lot," Washington said. "The funny thing about it is, the Syracuse family and fans, they tweet me all the time. Everyday I have like five tweets from Syracuse fans telling me to come to Cuse and that Cuse loves me. They are a school that's showing a lot of interest and I talk to Eric White all the time."
The next step for the South Lake standout is to visit the schools on his list after he trims it next month. He plans to visit Syracuse sometime in the late winter or early spring of 2014. March or April could be when he checks out the Orange campus for the first time.
