"It's big," Spruill said. "That's what our goal was my freshman year. When they came to recruit me, they were trying to get back and rebuild the program. Being able to play as a freshman at Syracuse and get to that bowl game, I'll take it.
"Three bowl games in four years and should've had a fourth, we're not where we want to be in terms of conference play. But we're getting there slowly but surely."
Thankfully for Spruill, he won't have to worry about cold weather this time around.
"I would've cried if we had to play in the Pinstripe Bowl again," Spruill said. "I'd have fell on my knees and just cried. It's earlier too so guys are making plays for the warmer weather. They don't have to worry about 18 layers and stuff when they're going outside."
The task now is three bowl wins in four years for Spruill and the Orange. Having played them the year before, preparation is a bit easier.
"They're a good run team," Spruill said. "They have a physical style of play. We played them last year so that helps a little bit with some of the guys on the team. We know their scheme for the most part. We just have to keep practicing and get ready to go."
As a senior, Spruill will be playing in his last game in a Syracuse uniform. That is a bittersweet feeling for the four year starter.
"I've thought about that," Spruill said. "I've been all over the place between happy and being bummed. I'm really don't after this, next year I won't be doing winter workouts or coming back for summer workouts. I don't get to come back. It sucks but at the same time so I get to play one more time with team and have some fun."
Syracuse and Minnesota kickoff the Texas Bowl on December 27th at 6:00pm eastern time.
