"I ended up finding out from that guy Eric (White), the recruiting director," Hartsfield said. "He messaged me on Twitter saying that I have a full ride to Syracuse. And he's been talking to me every day since then.
"I was very surprised because I hadn't really heard much from Syracuse. It's just great to get another offer underneath my belt."
The main topic of conversation between Hartsfield and White has been scheduling a visit. A trip would be key in making an impression on the 6-foot athlete and could happen soon.
"He wants me to come up to Syracuse for a visit," Hartsfield said. "He wants me to bring my whole family and come see it. Mostly that's what we talk about, is me coming up for a visit. I'm probably going to go sometime in the spring."
Hartsfield is still learning about the program, but does have a positive impression initially.
"The most I know about the program is that they're building their team up now," Hartsfield said. "They're really coming together from a program. It's great to see how they weren't doing that good but now they're doing pretty well in their conference."
Hartsfield says he is planning on giving Syracuse a real serious look. He says they will be in the mix to land him as part of their 2015 class.
That said, he knows what he is looking for in a potential landing spot.
"To find the right fit, it has to be reasonable distance wise," Hartsfield said. "A good education. The coaching staff has to be one family, that's really important to me. Just the environment. I don't want to go to a place where I don't feel safe."
Syracuse is considered to be a "reasonable distance" from home for Hartsfield. He currently holds offers from Cincinnati, Georgia Tech and Rutgers in addition to the Orange. The three-star corner is also hearing from Maryland, Miami, Ohio State, Pittsburgh, Penn State and Missouri.
Hartsfield currently has no favorites.
