Lone Star State DB looking at Syracuse

Jaylon Lane has picked up a dozen offers last week, including one from Syracuse. He discusses his interest in the Orange and more inside.

Texas is not a normal recruiting ground for the Syracuse Orange. Yet they have offered a few in the Lone Star State in the 2015 cycle, including Nacogdoches (Tex.) High defensive back Jaylon Lane.

"I spoke with (defensive backs) coach (Fred) Reed like three weeks ago," Lane said. "I only had two offers back then and he said they were going to evaluate me. Then I called him on Saturday and he said, ‘man you have been picking up a lot of offers.'

"He said they watched my film again and loved it. He offered me a scholarship."

Lane has some big regional offers from some of the best program in the area. That includes Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas A&M. That doesn't mean Syracuse hasn't made an impression.

"I was excited when they offered," Lane said. "Syracuse is a great school and that's a big offer. Coach Reed is a really great coach and he's up front. I really like him. He's a great guy.

"I don't know much about them yet. I'm still trying to do my homework on those guys. I saw them play in the Texas Bowl. They played Minnesota. They were a really great team and finished to get the W. I loved how they played."

Lane is still early in the process and has 20 offers. Btu Syracuse is a school he plans to keep involved in his recruitment.

"I'm really interested in Syracuse," Lane said. "Those guys are good. I don't have a list at the moment, but I'm going to give them a look for sure."

Lane said he does not have a visit planned, but is hoping to get up to campus over the summer to see the Orange program in person.
