"I was happy and surprised," Lamar said. "It was coach Reed. I wasn't able to talk to him but he (told my coach) that he liked how I played at one of our spring practices.
"I was happy that I had the offer and I was surprised because I thought they weren't going to offer me unless I did well at their camp over the summer."
Despite offers from some of college football's elite, Lamar says he is interested in the Orange. He hopes to get up there soon in order to check things out in person.
"I am interested in Syracuse," Lamar said. "I'll know exactly how much once I see the campus. I don't have anything scheduled, but I'm planning to get up there over the summer."
"I want to see their engineering program. I want to see if I will be able to play as a true freshman. I've seen them play on television but I don't much about their program."
Lamar added that a key factor in his decision will be good defensive coaching. He wants to see if the Orange have that in order for them to be among his favorites.
