Dawson planning big summer

Nick Dawson had a simple answer for Scout when asked how he will separate one school from about a dozen others in looking at a commitment: "With visits." The three-star has a busy summer ahead.

Syracuse and Iowa State were the latest programs to pull the trigger for Nick Dawson.

The McDonough (Ga.) Eagles Landing Christian Academy standout is looking to be the third straight edge rusher from the private school outside of Atlanta to land at a big-time program in as many cycles.

It was Issac Rochell (Notre Dame) in 2013, Andrew Williams (Auburn) last cycle. Now, with all eyes on him at ELCA, the Scout.com three-star is sitting on a dozen offers himself after a big spring evaluation period.

"I'm trying to heat up," he said. "Syracuse and Iowa state, they both offered (June 5). Neither was really a surprise, I knew both of them were coming I just didn't know when."

The Orange has been making a push in the Peach State for years, ever since the move to the ACC was announced.

"When Coach (DeAndre) Smith came to my school about two weeks ago, he went on and said that the offer coming soon," Dawson said. "And it did, along with many other schools as well."

Without a leader or favorite, Syracuse could be in line for a visit this summer, something the 6-foot-3, 230-pounder will do plenty of before his senior season begins.

"I'm excited to see how everything plays out," he said. "My visits...I'll visit some of my top schools this summer one of them being Louisville, and I'll be there on the 16th.

"I'm also planning on Indiana, Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Virginia, Ole Miss and UGA. But some of the new ones will most definitely play a role in my decision. I'm really excited about getting on their campuses."

Dawson, at 6-foot-3, 230 pounds, is looking to make a decision late in the summer after visiting several schools on his list.
