Savage talks Cuse camp, offer

After picking up an offer from Syracuse over the weekend, three-star cornerback Darnell Savage is focused on three schools with a decision looming in the coming months.

Bear (Del.) Carvel Academy cornerback Darnell Savage is one of the best defensive backs in the northeast in the 2015 class. He added another regional offer over the weekend when he attended a camp at Syracuse.

"I worked with most of the coaching staff," Savage said. "I got there and I was introduced and treated with much respect. We started the camp and I got to meet with all the coaches. Then we got split up into groups. We did some testing stuff and I was talking to a bunch of the coaches.

"We split into position groups. Pretty much during the entire camp we were talking about different techniques and stuff. So it was really good. It was well put together. It was a very good camp."

His performance during the drills and combine testing made a big impression on the Orange coaches. Specifically head coach Scott Shafer.

"After the camp, we all went into the middle to talk," Savage said. "They told us to all get our bags because we were going to go upstairs and talk to our position coaches. Like all the DBs went here and things like that. Coach (Fred) Reed came over to me, the DB coach, and said I was going to go with coach Shafer. He said to grab my parents.

"So when we met with coach Shafer, he showed us the locker room and all the facilities and stuff. The dining hall and everything like that. Then we went to his office and that's when he told me. I was all smiles. I told him thank you and he told me congratulations. It was good."

With the Syracuse offer now in hand, Savage is looking at three schools right now as he moves towards the end of his recruitment.

"Right now, at the top of my list is Maryland and Rutgers," Savage said. "But I don't really want to count Syracuse out. They're a great school and they obviously think very highly of me. So I really don't want to count them out. So I say that they're up there as well."

The three-star defensive back plans to decide before his senior year starts in order to focus on the season and schoolwork. He visited Rutgers on Monday, and will visit Maryland next week. The plan is to then schedule a trip to Syracuse after that before making a decision.
