Syracuse Football Recruiting Weekend Primer

Syracuse will have several prospects on campus this weekend, all from New Jersey. Assistant coach Bobby Acosta continues to develop relationships with players and coaches and has a chance to help the Orange's efforts as they face N.C. State.

It is a critical game as Syracuse takes on North Carolina State inside the Carrier Dome on Saturday. Off of it, it is also very important as several talented prospects will be on campus.

Player: Saleem Brightwell
Class: 2015
Position: Linebacker
Rating: 3-star
Positional Rank: #90 OLB
Height/Weight: 6-foot-1/206 lbs.
School: Paramus Catholic High School (Paramus, NJ)
Notes: Has a top four of Missouri, Nebraska, Michigan State and Pittsburgh, but is open to including Syracuse in that group if the visit goes well. Assistant coach Bobby Acosta has been recruiting Brightwell for some time and is developing a good relationship with the Paramus Catholic coaching staff.

Player: Najee Clayton
Class: 2015
Position: Wide Receiver
Rating: 3-star
Positional Rank: #99 WR
Height/Weight: 6-foot-2/200 lbs.
School: Paramus Catholic High School (Paramus, NJ)
Notes: Clayton could play wide receiver, tight end or safety at the next level. Syracuse likes him at tight end and he says he has a strong relationship with coach Acosta. Rutgers, Virginia and Pittsburgh are also in communication on a regular basis. Illinois recently offered him as a safety. Clayton added he would like to take an official down the road.

Player: Troy Geathers
Class: 2015
Position: Safety
Rating: NR
Positional Rank: NR
Height/Weight: 6-foot-0/195 lbs.
School: Paramus Catholic High School (Paramus, NJ)
Notes: Geathers only has one offer, from Charlotte. The Orange are intrigued, however, and are bringing him on campus to learn about him just much as they want to show him the campus. He is a name to monitor going forward.

Class: 2016
Position: Quarterback
Rating: 3-star
Positional Rank:NR
Height/Weight: 6-foot-2/209 lbs.

Three-star running back Tyler Thompson from the 2016 class out of Ocean Township High in New Jersey was originally supposed to visit this weekend as well, but has rescheduled the trip for Syracuse’s home finale against Duke on November 8th.
