Syracuse added defensive tackle Jalen Harvey right before signing day as part of the 2014 recruiting class. Only 10 months later, Harvey is leaving the Orange program multiple sources close to the situation have informed Scout.
Head coach Scott Shafer confirmed the news Sunday morning, saying Harvey has decided to transfer to pursue a better academic fit.
The loss of Harvey leaves Syracuse with just five scholarship defensive tackles returning from the 2014 roster. However, the Orange has added three verbal commitments at the position in the 2015 cycle. Ironically, the most recent player to commit is also from Alabama in Brindlee Mountain High product Steven Clark.
It is not expected that Syracuse will pursue another defensive tackle to fill this slot, but does open up another scholarship for the 2015 class.
