Spence No Longer Part of SU's 2015 Class

Coral Gables assistant David Cooney says Syracuse pulled Andrew Spence's scholarship

In what has been an eventful week-plus for Syracuse football recruiting, more news regarding their 2015 class broke on Saturday. Three-star cornerback Andrew Spence from Coral Gables High in Florida is no longer part of the Orange's 2015 recruiting haul as his scholarship was pulled, according to Coral Gables assistant David Cooney. The news was first reported by Stephen Bailey of Syracuse.com.

Syracuse informed Spence of the pulled scholarship on Friday, citing academic reasons according to Cooney. Interestingly, however, Cooney says Spence's grades are good enough to qualify under NCAA standards.

"We are grinding trying to set things up with other schools because he is a qualifier," Cooney said.

The loss of Spence puts Syracuse's commitment total at 24 for this class and just one cornerback in three-star Daivon Ellison. Spence committed to Syracuse back in May, in large part because of his relationship with former wide receivers coach and offensive coordinator George McDonald.
