Christmas Makes All-ACC 1st & Defensive Teams

Syracuse center Rakeem Christmas honored by the ACC for stellar senior season.

Syracuse basketball senior center Rakeem Christmas was named to the All-ACC 1st team and All-ACC Defensive Team. He was the only Syracuse player named to any of the All-ACC teams, defensive team or all freshman team. Duke center Jahlil Okafor was named conference player of the year. Christmas received one vote for the player of the year award.

"Syracuse’s Christmas led the Orange and ranks third among ACC scorers at 17.5 points per game and is fourth in rebounding at 9.1 boards per contest," the ACC said in a release. In addition, the 6-foot-9 senior from Philadelphia, is second in the ACC with 2.5 blocked shots per game and fifth in field goal percentage (.552)."

Christmas received the most votes for the All-ACC Defensive team.

"Syracuse’s Rakeem Christmas, who leads all active ACC players with 247 career blocked shots, was named on 58 of the 64 ballots, while Virginia junior Malcom Brogdon received 50 votes and Darion Atkins was on 38 ballots," the ACC said in a separate release.

In addition, Christmas was named most improved player in the conference while finishing 2nd in defensive player of the year voting. Syracuse's Michael Gbinije finished sixth in the voting for most improved player within the ACC.
