With the announcement of Jim Boeheim's intended retirement in three years, the focus shifts to recruiting. Specifically 2016 5-star Tyus Battle, the top target in that class. CuseNation.com spoke with Battle's father, Gary, about the situation.
"He called about 15 minutes before the announcement and just basically said he was retiring in three years," Battle said. "He said he really wants to coach Tyus and he's fired up for the next few years. He said he's going to give it all he's got."
Battle reiterated that the news does not alter their interest in Syracuse. In fact, with Tyus upcoming spring break towards the end of the month, Battle may take a trip to Central New York to visit Boeheim and the basketball program.
The plan, as was seemingly communicated to Battle, is for Mike Hopkins to take over for Boeheim. That is something the Battle's are very comfortable with. If Battle chooses Syracuse, he would play under Boeheim during his first two seasons.
