One day after athletics director Daryl Gross stepped down from his position, Syracuse lost another member of its athletic staff. Associate athletics director and chief communications officer Joe Giansante is no longer in his position or employed by the school according to a source.
Giansante started with Syracuse in July of 2013. Less than two years later, he is out of the job. From his bio on Cuse.com:
"In his role at Syracuse, he oversaw sports information, executive athletic communications, digital enterprises and production plus new and traditional media operations and contracts for SU in conjunction with the ACC. In addition, he helped manage the IMG multi-media rights relationship, brand management and other external revenue generating functions for SU Athletics."
This is more fallout from the NCAA ruling against Syracuse, which cited academic fraud among other infractions. It is the latest move likely done to show the NCAA that the University is making the moves necessary to ensure compliance going forward.
Syracuse has already announced they are appealing portions of the NCAA's ruling, and these moves will likely serve as evidence that things are being done to correct past mistakes.
