Syracuse Pursuing Oregon State Commit

Safety Devon Clarke, an Oregon State commit, has the Orange hot on his trail.

Syracuse is looking for safety prospects in the 2016 class, perhaps two or three depending on how the cycle plays out. One of their top targets hails from the Sunshine State in two-star Devon Clarke.

Clarke is currently committed to Oregon State, but that has not stopped the Orange. They offered him about a week ago.

"When I got the offer from Syracuse, it was a big shock," Clarke said. "I never knew they would be interested in a guy like me. I thought their program was looking for the top prospects. I felt great when they offered me. (I was) full of joy."

Clarke is being recruited by Syracuse assistant Jake Moreland. The two are in regular communication and have a developing relationship.

"We talk on the phone (and through social media)," Clarke said. "He was the coach to bless me with the offer. I think he's great. Our relationship is growing by the day. He's always keeping in touch with me.

"We talk about the school and work. They're telling me they want me to come in (and play) as a true freshman."

Clarke says Syracuse is high on his list right now, despite being committed elsewhere. He says one of the main reasons is because they are showing him "a lot of love." He declined to say specifically what the Orange are doing, simply saying "it's a lot, just know that."

The 6-foot-3 Kissimmee High standout is looking to take the relationship with Syracuse a step further in the form of an on campus visit.

"Hopefully at the beginning of the summer," Clarke said. "I'm looking to see if everyone is a family and to see their practice. And the rest of the campus."

When asked if Syracuse has a chance to flip him, he answered, "Don't think I can answer that one."
