Syracuse basketball’s top target in the 2016 class is off the board. Only a couple of days after taking an official visit to Michigan, Tyus Battle announced his commitment to the Wolverines. He had previously scheduled an official visit to Syracuse for the weekend of May 22nd, but that trip is not likely to happen after his decision.
Battle had been recruited hard by Syracuse for years, and he was seemingly the top target for the Orange who want a point guard this cycle. The focus now turns to Kobi Simmons, Alterique Gilbert and potentially Jamal Murray.
Per a source, Syracuse is very high on Gilbert and think he can be a dynamic guard at the next level. Expect them to ramp up their pursuit of him. It is also possible, based on what we have gathered, that Syracuse pursues Jamal Murray. Murray has always been on the Orange radar, but does not currently hold an offer. He has been very impressive in recent AAU events, and could be a nice fit in the Syracuse system.
Also, don’t sleep on Simmons. He is actually more highly rated than Battle, and the Orange will continue to recruit him hard as well.
Syracuse still has one player committed in the 2016 class in four-star forward Matthew Moyer. The Orange will make sure to add a point guard before rounding out the class.
