Syracuse Basketball Recruiting Insider

There has recently been a lot of action regarding the 2016 and 2017 prospects. We have updates on six major Syracuse basketball targets, including a newscheduled visit, commitment and potential scenarios.

Welcome to the weekly recruiting blog on Every Wednesday, we’ll have a full recap of your weekly recruiting updates surrounding the Syracuse Orange men’s basketball program, which will include targets, offers, visits and overall interest. With Peach Jam starting later this week, will have complete coverage of each Syracuse target competing in the prestigious event.

2016 Targets

Tyus Battle: Battle has remained quiet since his decommitment from Michigan. Aside from one video interview with Scout’s Evan Daniels, Tyus has shied away from commenting on his recruitment. At the Nike Basketball Academy, the 5-star New Jersey guard said he ‘really likes Syracuse a lot,’ enjoyed his official visit and confirmed that Michigan was still in play. Duke and Louisville have backed off Battle since his decommitment, which ultimately leaves Syracuse and Michigan, especially after Gilbert’s commitment to Connecticut.

Harry Giles: Giles, a 5-star prospect from North Carolina, remains interested in Syracuse. He told ESPN on Tuesday his list remains: Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio State, Syracuse, UNLV and Wake Forest. Harry is expected to cut his list down by the end of summer, which will reportedly include Duke, Kentucky, North Carolina and Wake Forest.

Alterique Gilbert: Gilbert verbally committed to Connecticut on Saturday, July 4th. Syracuse had been targeting the Miller Groove High School (GA) prospect for a few months, but ultimately came up short. However, UConn reportedly continued to show interest in Tyus Battle, who remains SU’s top 2016 target. Gilbert’s commitment should eliminate the Huskies form Battle’s list. A fan tweeted at Syracuse assistant coach Mike Hopkins wondering why Alterique never visited Syracuse, as to which Hopkins replied, “tried. Didn’t want to.”

2017 Targets

Trevon Duval: In a recent interview at the Nike Basketball Academy, Trevon told Evan Daniels he likes the way Syracuse utilizes their guards and illustrates their ability. Duval has plans to visit a few schools out in California later this summer. The 5-star guard has picked up recent offers from Alabama, Kansas, Missouri, UCLA and UNLV, which adds up to 20+ D-1 offers. Duval visited Syracuse last October for Orange Madness.

Kevin Huerter: Huerter, a class of 2016 prospect, holds an offer beginning in the 2017-18 season. It would require one year of prep school post-high-school graduation. Indiana and Villanova recently offered the 4-star guard. Syracuse is waiting on Tyus Battle’s decision, which directly impacts Huerter’s recruitment with the Orange. If Battle commits elsewhere, we may see Syracuse change Kevin’s offer to the class of 2016. That would put the Orange right in the middle of things with a late-summer/early-fall decision.

Quade Green: Green, a 4-star guard from Philadelphia, told via text message that he will visit Syracuse in August. He has not confirmed a date, but holds high interest in the Orange. He is AAU teammates with 2017 5-star target Trevon Duval.
