There was a report approximately 10 days ago that Syracuse and Wisconsin were in discussions about a potential football series in the future. On Thursday, Syracuse officially announced the news with the games taking place in 2020 and 2021. The first matchup will be on September 12th, 2020 at Camp Randall in Madison. The second will take place in the Carrier Dome on September 11th, 2021.
The last meeting between these two schools was in the 1997 for the Kickoff Classic at Giants Stadium. Syracuse won that game 34-0 as Donovan McNabb, Kevin Johnson and the rest of the Orange defeated Ron Dayne and the Badgers to start the season. Kevin Johnson returned the opening kickoff for an 89-yard touchdown to set the tone for the rest of the game.
"I'm excited for our football program, our student-athletes and our fans to announce this series," Syracuse Director of Athletics Mark Coyle said in a release. "To add another chapter to the history between these teams and bring a program like Wisconsin to the Carrier Dome is important as we strive to give our student-athletes the opportunity to compete at the highest level."
Syracuse leads the all-time series 3-1-1, including 2-1 in Madison, 1-0 in neutral games and 0-0-1 in Syracuse. The game in 2021 will be the first meeting between the two in the Carrier Dome, as the previous meeting in Syracuse was at Archbold Stadium in 1971. That meeting saw the teams tie 20-20.
The last meeting between the two in Madison was a 31-7 Wisconsin victory in 1972. The two previous meetings at Camp Randall Stadium were a 27-20 Syracuse victory in 1941 and 43-7 Orange triumph in 1969.
Syracuse kicks off their 2015 season on Friday, September 4th in the Carrier Dome against Rhode Island for a 7pm kickoff.
