Early in the first quarter, Syracuse quarterback Terrel Hunt left the season opener with a lower body injury. At halftime, Syracuse Athletics announced that Ervin Philips also suffered the dreaded LBI and would not return.
Philips caught two touchdowns in the first half and had 41-yards receiving. Both came from backup quarterback Eric Dungey.
Much is expected from Philips this season, counted on to be one of the Orange's top playmakers. Head coach Scott Shafer said after the game that they expect Philips to be OK. They just wanted to be smart with him in this one.
