The Ray Guy Award recognizes the best punter in college football each year. Syracuse punter Riley Dixon was named to the watch list for the award in the preseason. The award also hands out their player of the week for the best punting performance of that particular week in college football.
Week three's award went to Dixon for his contributions to Syracuse's 30-27 overtime win over Central Michigan.
Dixon averaged 50.4 yards per punt on five attempts on Saturday, with three landing inside the 20. His long was a 60-yarded. The highlight may have come in the second half, when his punt was deflected by the Chippewas, but still landed inside the 10-yard line.
With Syracuse's offense struggling after Eric Dungey went out, Dixon's ability to flip field position was of critical importance.
Syracuse next takes the field on Saturday against No. 8 LSU for a noon kickoff.
