Syracuse QB commit Rex Culpepper discusses recruiting his teammates, rehab and much more

Syracuse QB commit Rex Clupepper discusses attending the Syracuse game on Saturday, recruiting his teammates, his rehab and much more inside.

Three-star Tampa (Fla.) Plant quarterback Rex Culpepper is one of two at the position to commit to Syracuse in the 2016 class. Unfortunately for him, prior to his senior season, he tore his ACL and has been rehabbing ever since. He told CuseNation.com that his rehab is going very well and he is ahead of schedule. Culpepper added he feels strong.

That is good news in order for him to be ready to practice this spring as an early enrollee.

Culpepper also attended Syracuse's 45-24 loss to South Florida on Saturday along with teammates Scoop BradshawBo PeekJuwan Burgess and Whop Philyor

"It was kind of frustrating to watch knowing they are so much better than they played," Culpepper said. "I just know I feel bad for Terrel Hunt because I know exactly how he feels."

Culpepper added that the performance, while disappointing, did not impact how solid he feels about his decision, nor did it impact Bradshaw's pledge or interest from Peek, Burgess and Philyor.

"Not at all," Culpepper said. "We all know the future is bright at Syracuse."

That group had Orange head coach Scott Shafer in attendance for their game on Friday. While Culpepper was excited to have his future coach in attendance, the night was bittersweet.

"I just wish I could've played in front of him," he said.

The three-star prospect, as previously noted, has several talented teammates at Plant High. Many of which Syracuse is recruiting. Three-star safety Bradshaw is already committed, but three-star defensive tackle Bo Peek, four-star 2017 receiver Juwan Burgess and 2017 receiver Whop Philyor are all targets.

Culpepper says he is recruiting each to try to get them to join him at Syracuse. He says all are very interested.

The biggest mystery may be Peek, who is currently committed to Stanford. Culpepper says he believes Peek will take an official to SU. A source told CuseNation.com the current plan is for Peek to join Culpepper and Bradshaw in Central New York on the 4th of December. That would obviously be huge for the Orange.

Burgess is one of the top players in the 2017 class and has Syracuse as one of his top options. Fellow 2017 receiver, Whop Philyor, is an undersized player but has big time speed. Syracuse is recruiting both, though Philyor does not yet have an offer.
