Syracuse will be without their starting quarterback Eric Dungey and other contributors against No. 1 Clemson

Eric Dungey is out for Saturday's tilt with top ranked Clemson. More injury updates for Syracuse inside.

Walk-on quarterback Zachary Mahoney will start for Syracuse against Clemson, the number one team in the country, on Saturday as Eric Dungey has been ruled out with an upper body injury. That means Mahoney will have his first two starts at the division level against LSU and Clemson.

That is quite a task for anyone, let alone a junior college transfer walk-on who was not expected to play even in mop-up duty this season, let alone as the starting quarterback.

Mahoney played well earlier in the season, however, throwing for three touchdowns against LSU as the Orange gave the Tigers a run for their money. The coaching staff loves Mahoney's abilities, attitude and intelligence. Offensive coordinator Tim Lester has previously said the entire playbook is available with Mahoney at the helm.

Also out this week is reserve defensive end Luke Arciniega. That means more snaps for freshmen Qaadir Sheppard and Amir Ealey
