(WHAT DID YOU DO OVER THE SUMMER?)
My time has been spending doing what I do over the past few years. And that is trying the best we can to get ready to play another season. I can't say that I allowed myself to be overly distracted by everything that's going on. My feeling is that Syracuse played a great schedule, has had a great program long before the BCS won a national championship. I think we've always played a very competitive schedule and we'll continue to. We've got some really traditionally strong programs in the Big East. I'm a great deal more optimistic for Syracuse football. I haven't been tossing and turning and night, saying, "What are we going to do now?" I've been tossing and turning figuring how to play a North Carolina team. We've got three new teams to play and that kind of consumes your time.
(ARE YOU WORRIED ABOUT WHAT WILL HAPPEN AFTER VIRGINIA TECH AND MIAMI LEAVE?)
I would say that I know for the next three years, we're a BCS program. Three years is an awful long time. I think the quality of our programs in the league will be proven. All I know right now is, the wrong thing to do right now would be to panic and worry about it. I'm confident that Syracuse and the Big east will remain a part of that. I think college football is a regional thing. Geographically, (Miami and Virginia Tech) belong in that league.
(WHAT DO YOU THINK OF OUT-OF-CONFERENCE GAMES?)
I'd like to see done what's good for college football. One thing that wore us down last year was travel. I've never been home at six in the morning so many times.
(WILL YOUR PLAYERS CARRY A CHIP ON THEIR SHOULDERS WHEN PLAYING MIAMI/VIRGINIA TECH?)
When the kids run out of the locker room and their foot hits the goal line, they won't remember I think. I have a hard time getting upset and Miami and Virginia Tech.
(ANY PREDICTIONS ON THIS YEAR WITH THE EXPERIENCE YOU HAVE?)
I've never been one to sit here and say we're going to win this many games. I like the leadership. I like the number of seniors. I don't know when we're been more experienced on the defensive line. Offensively, our line is back. We've got two backs who are as good as anyone in any league. I'm confident in the leadership we have.
(WHAT ARE YOUR CONCERNS?)
Punting is a worry. Are we going to do the job all around? David Tyree was the cornerstone of our special teams. ...
