Shortly before Dino Babers was announced as Syracuse football's new head coach, three-star offense guard commit Sam Heckel told Scout's Allen Trieu that he was open to speaking with new schools in the wake of the Orange firing Scott Shafer and staff.
Some of that seems to be quelled now, however.
Heckel told CuseNation.com that he is "99% sure" he will stick with his commitment to Syracuse.
"After seeing and having talked to some of the staff from recruting last year, I think I'd be pretty happy with it," Heckel said.
Having an athletic, versatile lineman like Heckel seems to fit Babers' up-tempo, fast paced, high flying offensive system. He held a Bowling Green offer out of high school, so Babers' staff clearly agrees.
Heckel originally committed to Syracuse in June after his previous leader, Northwestern, filled up their offensive line slots. He picked the Orange over his other finalist, Northern Illinois.
