It will be a clash in East vs. West power conferences between two top 25 ranked teams in the AP Polls. Arizona State Sun Devils are ranked #24 as of week 5. The Sun Devils have played two top 10 teams earlier this season. To start the season they played Kentucky and lost by four in overtime (64-68), and they have played South Carolina and lost by two (58-60).
The Sun Devils are not a strong team from the free throw line, shooting 67 percent. Arizona State scores the most points in their second and fourth quarters. This is similar to the Orange scoring charts and will make for an exciting match-up.
Arizona State has just as much experience in the starting five as the first seven or eight for the Orange. All but one of the starting five for the Sun Devils are seniors and the fifth starter is a 6’4” junior center Quinn Dornstauder. Dornstauder is the leading scorer for Arizona State averaging 13.7 points per game.
On Wednesday night senior Syracuse forward Taylor Ford led all scorers and scored a career high 21 points. The bench scored 50 points and the Orange had 51 second half points to beat Coppin State 88-56.
The Orange have also played two top 10 teams this season and lost to Tennessee a close 55-57, and lost to Maryland 64-82.
