A look at where things stand in Syracuse football recruiting at each position

CuseNation.com takes a look at each position and where it stands for Syracuse football recruiting in the 2016 class. We breakdown slots available, top targets, names to watch and more.

Syracuse is starting to get rolling on the recruiting trail as the dead period winds down and official visits are on the horizon. With so many new names emerging, where do things stand at each position? Let's take a look.

Quarterback

Committed: Lindsey ScottRex Culpepper
Slots Available: 1
Top Targets: Devon Modster
Other Options: None
Skinny: Modster is an elite talent and Syracuse is going after him hard. He decommitted from Arizona and says he is interested in the Orange. No official visit has been scheduled yet, but I expect him to take one. If Syracuse does not land Modster, there are no other quarterbacks currently on the radar. Culpepper will enroll in Syracuse on the 15th.
Prediction: Syracuse lands Modster.

Running Back

Committed: None
Slots Available: 2-3
Top Targets: Sam BrodnerAnthony JulmisseKentrail Moran
Other Options: Joshua Mack
Skinny: Syracuse loves each of their top targets and there is a scenario where they take all three. Brodner has other officials set to Illinois and Wisconson. Julmisse is high on Syracuse but is currently committed to Colorado. He does not have other officials set up as of yet. Moran is committed to Illinois but loves Syracuse. They have a legitimate shot at all three and a lot will depend on their official visits. If Wisconsin really wants Brodner, however, they would be the team to beat. Otherwise, Syracuse is in a good spot with each.
Prediction: Julmisse and Moran both flip while Brodner ends up at Wisconsin.

Wide Receiver

Committed: None
Slots Available: 2-3
Top Targets: Johnny HuntleyQuayvon Skanes
Other Options: Alonge Brooks
Skinny: Huntley is a Colorado commit who is taking an official visit to Syracuse. Skanes is committed to UConn but has expressed interest in a Syracuse official. Both are very flippable, but the visits will tell the tale. Brooks currently does not have an offer, but he says he expects to hear from head coach Dino Babers soon. Brooks was recently offered by Temple.
Prediction: Syracuse flips both Huntley and Skanes.

Tight End

Committed: None
Slots Available: 0
Top Targets: None
Other Options: None
Skinny: Syracuse is not looking to add any tight ends in the 2016 class.

Athlete

Committed: Moe NealTaylor Riggins
Slots Available: 0
Top Targets: None
Other Options: None
Skinny: Syracuse loves Neal and believes he can play running back or receiver. Neal will arrive at Syracuse on the 16th. Riggins is an interesting situation. He has gone quiet since the new staff reached out, so we don't know if he is looking elsewhere. Stay tuned on that front.
Prediction:
N/A

Offensive Line

Committed: Airon ServaisSam HeckelLiam O'Sullivan
Slots Available: 1
Top Targets: Sean Foster
Other Options: Alaric JacksonLuke Campbell
Skinny: Foster is keeping information on his recruitment very close to the vest and he is very hard to read. The former Minnesota pledge took an official to Purdue, has one scheduled to Iowa State the weekend of the 23rd. Syracuse's only shot is to get him on campus the weekend of the 15th and hope they make a big impression. Right now, he seems to be a Cyclones lean. Jackson's interest in Syracuse has always seemed modest at best, but they could ramp things up if they feel Foster is a long s hot. Campbell is a Purdue commit who was offered by the staff when they were at Bowling Green. He is out of Ohio and is a three-star tackle. Keep an eye on him.
Prediction:
Syracuse gets Foster on campus for an official, but he picks Iowa State. Syracuse stands pat with three offensive linemen this class.

Defensive End

Committed: Jamal Holloway
Slots Available: 2-3
Top Targets: Joshua BlackDrew BeesleyJerrion NelsonJaquwan Nelson
Other Options: Shemar SmithRashad WeaverCollin Miller
Skinny: Black is committed to Illinois, but is very open to Syracuse and likes the new staff. He had an in-home visit before the dead period and things went very well. Syracuse has a legitimate chance to flip him on his official visit. Beesley is a former Bowling Green commit who opened things back up when the staff left for Central New York. Syracuse is the favorite here. Nelson picked up an offer on Monday and was a target of the staff when they were at Bowling Green. The Orange are under heavy consideration, but Iowa State may be the team to beat here. Nelson is a Miami commit who is looking around given the change in coaching staff. Nick Monroe, who recruits Florida for Syracuse, has been involved with him since his time with Bowling Green, so there is a relationship there. Nelson is taking an official the weekend of the 22nd.
Prediction:
Syracuse flips Black and Nelson, and adds Beasley.

Defensive Tackle

Committed: None
Slots Available: 1-2
Top Targets: Unknown
Other Options: Unknown
Skinny: Syracuse needs to add depth at the defensive tackle position. One or two bodies here will certainly help. No new names have emerged at this time, so this is still a position in flux.
Prediction:
Syracuse adds one defensive tackle this class.

Outside Linebacker

Committed: None, though technically Riggins would be brought in as a linebacker
Slots Available: 1-2
Top Targets: Andrew Armstrong
Other Options: Kain Daub
Skinny: Armstrong was an immediate target of the new staff when they took over. They love his athleticism and versatility. Though Armstrong says he will take other visits, Syracuse is considered a heavy favorite here. A prospect to watch here is former Scout 100 prospect Kain Daub. Syracuse has recently asked for his transcripts and he is on their radar. He signed with Florida State out of high school but is now at ASA junior college after things did not work out with the Seminoles. Daub is very, very talented.
Prediction:
Syracuse lands Armstrong and calls it a day at outside linebacker with the young talent on the roster.

Inside Linebacker

Committed: Kenneth Ruff
Slots Available: None
Top Targets: None
Other Options: None
Skinny: Syracuse was able to flip Ruff from Virginia thanks to the recruiting efforts of Nick Monroe. He is set to enroll in less than two weeks.
Prediction:
Ruff enrolls next month and Syracuse is done at inside linebacker.

Cornerback

Committed: Carl JonesMonquavion Brinson
Slots Available: 1
Top Targets: Marquis Smith
Other Options: Unknown
Skinny: Syracuse is moving towards bigger corners with size and length. They really like Smith, but he is currently deciding between 'Cuse and Iowa State for his last official. If Syracuse misses on him, they could start to look towards other options.
Prediction:
Smith takes the official to Iowa State and Syracuse explores other cornerback options.

Safety

Committed: Scoop Bradshaw
Slots Available: 1-2
Top Targets: Evan FosterTony Butler
Other Options: Devon Clarke
Skinny: Foster and Butler are the clear top targets. Syracuse is a heavy favorite for Foster, while Butler seems to have mild interest. If the Orange land Foster, they may still want another body to add depth to the secondary. Clarke is a name to watch as the staff recruited him while at Bowling Green. If the Orange push, they could probably have him.
Prediction:
Syracuse gets Foster to commit and takes Clarke late in the cycle.

Overall

Predicted added commitments: Devon Modster, Anthony Julmisse, Kentrail Moran, Johnny Huntley, Quayvon Skanes, Joshua Black, Drew Beesley, Jaquwan Nelson, a defensive tackle, Andrew Armstrong, a cornerback, Evan Foster and Devon Clarke.
Total members of 2016 class: 25
