Syracuse lands outside linebacker target Rashad Smith

Syracuse has flipped former Florida Atlantic commit Rashad Smith.

Florida Atlantic was trying to hold on to Homestead (Fla.) Senior High safety/linebacker Rashad Smith down the stretch of the recruiting cycle, but it was to no avail. Syracuse successfully flipped Smith during his official visit over the weekend.

Smith was targeted by the Orange as an outside linebacker prospect. They feel he cam develop into a big time impact player for them. With his combination of size, physicality, athleticism and instincts, Syracuse feels they've picked up a gem.

"ACC, big time football," Smith said previously. "I have a good relationship with the coaches."

Nick Monroe was his lead recruiter for Syracuse, and worked hard to get him to join the Orange. He visited Smith at his school, communicated through social media and conducted an in-home visit prior to the official.

Smith joins Kenneth Ruff and Andrew Armstrong as linebacker commits this cycle. Ruff, however, is viewed as an inside linebacker while both Smith and Armstrong will play the outside.
