Three-star linebacker Tim Walton decommits from Illinois after visiting Syracuse

Syracuse target Tim Walton, who visited over the weekend, has decommitted from Illinois

Three-star Detroit (Mich.) Cass Tech outside linebacker Tim Walton was a late addition to the Syracuse recruiting radar. Despite being committed to Illinois, he decided to take a visit to Central New York to check out the Orange. One day after returning home, Walton has decommitted from the Illini.

Walton, a three-star linebacker prospect, was one of 12 players who visited Syracuse during a big official visit weekend. Nine of those players were not committed to the Orange. After Joshua Black announced his decision Monday morning, Walton is the lone player from that weekend to not join the class to date.

Listed at 6-foot-2, 220 pounds, Walton is a physical linebacker who loves to hit. That style along with his fearless attitude is among the reasons Syracuse has targeted him..

"I thought Tim was really good as a senior," National Recruiting Analyst Allen Trieu said. "He transitioned from more of an outside edge guy who blitzed a lot as a junior to a read and react type of middle backer. I think he could be a good college MIKE or SAM. He's a good size kid.

"He's a leader and a kid that's going to work hard and do the right things."
