The attrition at defensive end continues for Syracuse football. Sophomore defensive ends Qaadir Sheppard and Amir Ealey have been dismissed from the program for violation of team rules, head coach Dino Babers announced in a release Thursday. The release also said there will be no further comment.
Both were indefinitely suspended for failing drug tests at the end of last season. Defensive end was already a thin position heading into 2016 even with both in the mix.
Current defensive ends as of now are Kenny Carter, Jake Pickard, Jaquwan Nelson, Joshua Black and Kendall Coleman. Carter and Pickard will be redshirt freshmen while Nelson, Black and Coleman will be true freshman. Fellow incoming freshman Kenneth Ruff could also figure into the mix there.
As of now, there is no playing experience among that group, leading one to believe the Orange could look towards a graduate transfer to bolster the depth and experience there.
