The top quarterback in New York State in the 2017 class is Sayville (N.Y.) High signal caller Jack Coan. He has already put together an impressive offer list with Boston College, Maryland, Miami (Fla.), Michigan, Nebraska, Rutgers, Syracuse and Indiana all extending opportunities to the rising junior.
Syracuse's offer originally came, however, from the old Scott Shafer staff. While the new Orange staff has spent a lot of time wrapping up the 2016 class, they have not been lost on the importance of 2017. During their many travels over the previous several weeks, they headed to his school and reaffirmed the offer.
Because of that, Coan is intrigued by Syracuse and what the reputation of Dino Babers' explosive offense.
"Two of their coaches have been out to see me in school," he said. "I believe coach Ferri and coach Lynch. They have confirmed an offer. I'm definitely interested and (can't wait) to learn all about their new offense."
Coan is working on setting up a visit to the big in-state school, but nothing has been solidified.
"Yes they gave me some dates," he said. "But I haven't scheduled anything yet."
Being close to home seems to be helpful to Syracuse, but Coan says that will not be a big factor in his recruitment.
"Distance from home really doesn't matter to me," Coan said. "But I'm definitely interested."
Look for Syracuse to stay involved with Coan's recruitment going forward.
