Brooklyn (N.Y.) Lincoln defensive tackle Romello Martin is a four-star, Scout 300 prospect and one of the top defensive tackles in the East Region. His offer list will continue to grow, but includes Boston College, Nebraska, Rutgers, Syracuse and Cincinnati currently.
Syracuse came by and visited the 6-foot-4 stud prospect over the last several weeks to show him some love. Reno Ferri did the honors, hoping to keep the elite talent from leaving the state.
"The tight end coach," Martin said. "He just asked the basic questions. Getting to know me since he's new and doesn't know much about me."
Martin says he is keeping all of his options open and plans on visit Syracuse in the spring.
Despite the Orange being in-state, he is not sure yet if that will have an impact on his recruitment.
"I really haven't thought about everything yet," Martin said. "That's why my options are open. I don't know if I want to stay close to home yet. I'm still thinking."
Syracuse head coach Dino Babers has talked about keeping elite players from New York home, and Martin is certainly a prime example. Major programs are sure to come calling during the evaluation period, so a visit to start developing a strong relationship is critical.
Don't be surprised if Martin makes it on campus before the month is out.
