Syracuse basketball recruiting update

Syracuse coaches will be on the recruiting trail this weekend due to the Orange's 8-day break from competition.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- As previously reported on, Syracuse will be busy over the next few days on the recruiting trail.

On Wednesday, top assistant Mike Hopkins visited 2018 five-star target Nazreon Reid of Roselle Catholic (NJ). Earlier Wednesday afternoon, Hopkins watched 2016 signee Tyus Battle's practice, his dad, Gary, told Scout.

Despite Pope John head coach Jason Hasson telling that Adrian Autry would watch 2018 prospects Louis King and Aaron Clarke, it appears that won't be happening.

Instead, Hopkins and Gerry McNamara will be attending the National Prep School Invitational in Providence, R.I., a source confirmed to Mike Waters first reported the news.

Syracuse will get a chance to watch 2016 signee Matthew Moyer, 2016 target Kalif Young and 2017 five-star prospect Hamidou Diallo, among others.

The NPSI is a huge event that will give the coaching staff a great opportunity to see numerous prospects.

Due to SU's sanctions handed down by the NCAA, the Orange can only have two coaches on the road at one time. With that said, McNamara and Hopkins will be in Rhode Island on Friday evening, meaning Autry will have to stay back in Syracuse.
