One of Cass Tech's top prospects is 2017 linebacker/defensive end Zach Morton. Morton is viewed as a defensive end by Syracuse, where he visited Sunday through Monday. The three-star prospect entered the visit without an offer, but picked one up during the trip.
"I went into coach Reynolds office and we talked about my film, they're playing style and defense," Morton said. "He said they were offering me a scholarship. I was humbled and excited by it."
Morton said he felt very comfortable at Syracuse and that everyone was welcoming. In fact, he said it felt like home.
"It was very welcoming and the coaches were straight forward," Morton sad. "They let us see everything and there was nothing to hide. The coaches were straight forward and honest about all the position situations.
"I was able to bond with them and they were all modest and eager to guide me (it seemed like)."
Morton called the ride to Syracuse long but worth it. He loved the facilities, the Carrier Dome and the staff. One of the takeaways from the visit was learning more about the history of the program.
Overall, after spending time with the Syracuse coaches, learning about the program and checking out the facilities, Morton left Central New York impressed by everything the school has to offer prospective student-athletes.
"It heightened my interest," Morton said. "If I had a top five, Syracuse would be in it for sure."
Expect Syracuse to try to get Morton back on campus this spring or summer.
