Deptford (N.J.) Township wide receiver J.P. Roane is a speedster and a playmaker. It is no wonder why Syracuse has expressed interest and has him firmly on their radar. On Saturday, Roane made the short trip to Central New York to check out the Orange and get a better feel for the program. Mission accomplished.
"Felt like home," Roane said. "The visit was great. Really like what coach has to bring to the table with the new explosive offense. I really think I would make a big impact there. We just went to the weight room and the team facility. Then we went to the basketball game afterwards.
"My favorite part was the basketball game. The environment was crazy just for a basketball game. Can't even imagine what that atmosphere is like on Saturdays."
Roane spent part of his time on campus anging out with and talking to the Syracuse coaches.
"I talked to coach Hart and coach Babers," he said. "They're both great guys. Made it feel like home. We were just talking ball and about the offense and about how I could be a good fit."
Roane said they want to see him in person at a camp this summer before extending an offer. He plans on attending one of those camps to prove to the coaching staff he is worthy of an offer.
The facilities also impressed the speedy wideout.
"One of the best I've seen," Roane said. "Very impressed. It was just how big it was and how much stuff they have for every player."
Roane believes, after speaking with the Syracuse coaches, that they are very interested in him. He has reciprocated those feelings.
"My interest is very high with them," Roane said.
