Here are my four takeaways:
1. Michael Gbinije career-best: Gbinije saved his best Carrier Dome performance for his final game in the building. The 5th-year guard scored a career-high 34 points in SU's nine-point victory over the Wolfpack. While fellow senior Trevor Cooney struggled, scoring just five points, Gbinije carried the load and the Orange to a much-needed victory.
2. Roberson continues slow stretch: After being publicly criticized by Jim Boeheim last week, Tyler Roberson came out on Saturday with another poor performance. The junior forward scored four points and grabbed three rebounds in a season-low 14 minutes of action. After the game, Boeheim stated numerous defensive misques as the reasoning for his lack of minutes, but it goes beyond that. Roberson has entered Boeheim's doghouse for the long haul.
3. Slowing down Barber: The ACC's leading scorer, Anthony 'cat' Barber scored 15 points on Saturday. He was coming off of a 32-point performance at North Carolina. The Orange held Barber, who averages 23.2 points per game, to 3-of-8 shooting from the floor. He scored eight points from the free throw line, which kept his numbers respectable. "Its tough for point guards to score against us," Boeheim said after the game. The zone contains scoring guards well, which it proved on Saturday.
4. Coleman career-high: Center Dajuan Coleman played a career-high 35 minutes on Saturday due to a few reasons. Syracuse needed a bigger body to even the battle on the glass, but a large part due to his increased minutes is Roberson's play of late. Freshman Tyler Lydon will continue to play starter-like minutes. If Roberson's struggles continue, as they very well may, Coleman could see a major increase in minutes. He scored seven points and had seven rebounds on Saturday. He may have played more than 35 minutes but fouled out late in the second half.
