One of the top high school programs in the East region is DeMatha Catholic in Maryland. One of their talented wide receivers, Delante Hellams, is on the Syracuse radar and visited the Orange on Saturday.
"I talked to coach Babers, coach JB, coach McCloud and coach Ferri," he said. "We talked about coach Babers' history with receivers and I really liked them as men and coaches. I think it would be an easy connection with them.
"They said they really liked me and to make sure to stay in touch with them."
Hellams did not leave with an offer, but he is hoping one comes down the road.
Despite that, it did not ruin his experience. He loved watching the receivers during Saturday's scrimmage and believes he would be a perfect fit for Syracuse's new system.
"I liked the scrimmage a lot," Hellams said. "I got to see them go against each other live. Yeah, I think I can fit into the system because we run a similar one at DeMatha."
The facilities also stood out to Hellams, who said they were updated and maintained well.
Overall, the visit has the talented wideout thinking very positive things about Syracuse.
"It made me very interested," he said. "It allowed me to learn more about what they want to get accomplished. I would say they are pretty high up."
Hellams has no offers yet, but is receiving interest from Boston College, Duke, Army, James Madison, Maryland, Robert Morris, Penn State, Toledo, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.
