Peyton Hendershot is an athletic tight end out of Indiana. He has several offers in hand, but schools are after him for different reasons. Some like him as a tight end, some as a defensive end and some as an athlete. His most recent offer came from the ACC by way of Syracuse, who like him as a tight end.
"Extremely excited by the way they talked to me," Hendershot said. "Can't wait to get on campus. Coach (Brian) Ward (offered) then I talked to (tight ends) coach Reno (Ferri). They said the tight end position is a big time position for them and they need a big time playmaker there.
"So that's why they woud like to offer me."
Hendershot put Syracuse in his top three after picking up the offer, along with Cincinnati and Ball State. He is visiting the Orange on March 29th.
"I'm going to see the type of environment and atmosphere they give off becuase I want to go to a school that has a family atmosphere," Hendershot said. "Also, I'm going to want to figure out they are going to use me because I don't want to go somewhere to play tight end then just end up being another tackle."
In short, Hendershot wants to be a tight end that is involved in the passing attack rather than strictly a blocker. That's not his game. He is a matchup problem waiting to happen with his size, length and athleticism. You have to assume if Dino Babers gets his hands on a tight end who is capable of becoming a weapon, he will make sure they do just that.
The visit on the 29th will also allow Hendershot a chance to speak with the coaches on a more personal level. See if there is a good fit off the field in addition to on it. He also said he wants to see if Syracuse is his number one school after the trip.
