Syracuse Adds Preferred Walk-On Linebacker

Syracuse has added a preferred walk-on linebacker to their 2016 class. Details inside.

Solon (Ohio) High outside linebacker Zack Lesko is joining Syracuse's 2016 class as a preferred walk-on. He tweeted the news Wednesday evening and a source confirmed it to

"The coaching staff made me feel very comfortable and I have 100% faith in them that they are going to turn this program around," Lesko told "I also felt like I could not pass up on the opportunity to receive a great education."

Lesko is listed at 6-foot-1, 212 pounds with a 4.67 40-time. The staff really likes him and believe he has a lot of ability. They actually recruited him when they were at Bowling Green, expressing scholarship interest. Now he ends up with the same coaching staff and at a power five school.

"It played a significant role in deciding on Syracuse," Lesko said. "My relationship with the staff goes back to when they were at Bowling Green."

Having talented walk-ons in your program is only a good thing, and it appears Syracuse has one in Lesko. On film, he shows solid instincts, a nose for the ball, proper tackling angles and solid tackling technique. He also seems to have played zone coverage, which will be important in the Tampa-2 defensive system.

Lesko also played wide receiver in high school. He had other walk-on offers from Liberty and Marshall.
